Door Designs

The door to the front of your home or to your bedroom, it should convey who you are just as much as the rest of your home. The front door is usually the most eye catching feature of a house. The entrance doors should need to be in relation to the style of their surroundings. Whether viewed from inside or outside, they become an integral part of a home's design. They can vary from modern glass door to gothic style, from multi panelled to arched door. The definition for the doors has changed as first impressions are the lasting ones and the front entry makes a statement about the house. It is something that we pass through million times in our lives, from day we enter this world to day we leave, it. The most utilitarian of architectural elements, the DOOR is undoubtedly the most influential. Whether it is for light, warmth, ventilation, access or a view, a well-planned door can have a dramatic impact on your living space.

The entry door to your house makes a design statement and sets the mood for visitors. Doors should be well built to keep your home safe and hung so they open and close smoothly. Choosing the style of door your want is a question of personal taste. Here are some suggestions about how to choose a front door design.

When shopping for various designs you will want to take into consideration if you want your door to let in light or not. Most designs with glass insets are more vulnerable to burglary than solid doors. Smaller cut-outs that are far enough away from handles and locks make it more difficult for a break-in than glass insets that would allow for easy lock or latch access through broken glass. If you live in an area where security is a concern, then you might want to keep safety in mind.

Your door should enhance the look of your home. If there is a strong theme or style to the house you will want your door to fit in with the overall design. For example, an artistically styled home will look even better with a door design that echoes a creative theme in color or decoration. Other examples might be using unfinished-looking wood for a rustic styled home or a studded door for a medieval effect. You can even create some of your own effects, like painting your own stained glass. (See the article listed under Resources, below.)

The color of your front door can follow through with the rest of the house trim, create a statement about the material from which it is made, like metal or raw wood, or can be painted a completely different, contrasting color. If you want to paint your door red for the traditional Feng Shui to promote fame and reputation, do so only if your front door faces the south, otherwise the principle is lost.

Make sure your door fits the space well, whether it is a single door, a double door or a door with light panels on one or both sides. Choose a front door that adds beauty to the style of your home and make sure you are realistic about the practical and safety requirements you need from your front door.
