There are benefits to using window blinds that go beyond just the way they look. Our home has many different sizes and shapes of windows, some of them quite unusual. Interior Design is the name of placing the Right Things on Right Place with Good looking Combination. It is being done almost in old constructed homes but better to think befor construction if you are constructing new home. Interior design or Decor is a profession concerned with anything that is found inside a space - walls, windows, doors, finishes, textures, light, furnishings and furniture. All of these elements are used by interior designers to develop a functional, safe, and aesthetically pleasing space for a user. The work of an interior designer draws upon many disciplines including environmental psychology, architecture, product design, and traditional decoration (aesthetics and cosmetics). We plan the spaces of almost every type of building including: hotels, corporate spaces, schools, hospitals, private residences, shopping malls, restaurants, theaters. Today, interior designers must be attuned to architectural detailing including floor plans, home renovations, and construction codes. Some interior designers are architects as well.

In furnishing any room the major piece for the primary activity of the room must be considered first - the sofa in the living room, the bed in the bedroom, the desk in the office. This piece in most cases should face the focal point of the room. The focal point can be a view window, fireplace or, as is often the case, the television. Large pieces should be evenly distributed so as not to put the room off balance. Leave room around them for the best affect. In selecting these pieces, keep the architectural shapes in the room in mind. To echo a curved bay window with a curved sectional sofa or curved desk is pleasing to the eye.

The arrangement must make your activity comfortable and convenient as well as flatter your furniture. Think about the use of the room as you place the furniture. If you typically eat or drink there, is there a place to set your cup or plate down? Is there enough storage for books or CDs? If the room is used for socializing, is there enough seating and is it appropriately arranged? Wherever possible keep pieces of similar scale together. A small occasional chair would look better next to an accent table or floor lamp than next to a large overstuffed sofa. Try to balance pieces opposite one another. A pair of upholstered chairs is visually more balanced across from a sofa than a pair of small scale occasional chairs. Mix straight lines for interest in a room. A round table or curved chair breaks up the monotony of an otherwise linear room. Balance the number of wood and upholstered pieces. Mix hard and soft surfaces by adding rugs or fabric covered tables to a room otherwise filled with wood, metal and stone.

Creating an area for a secondary use adds function to a room. A reading corner in a bedroom or a game area in a family room can be created with a minimum of space. A long empty wall can be made into a focal point by grouping pictures over a long narrow table. Place a desk under a window to take advantage of the natural light and view. Place a curved item in a corner to soften the angle. A corner cupboard or curio cabinet is a wonderfully functional piece that adds character to the room while displaying your favorite collection.

Be aware of the light in the room when selecting and placing your furniture. A dark cabinet may disappear in a dimly lighted alcove. Bright pieces may seem garish under a picture window. Break up the horizontal lines of the room by mixing in taller items. A secretary or bookcase against the wall, a high back chair next to the sofa or a pair of lamps on a credenza will give the eye some variety and improve the view. A sofa may be placed diagonally in front of a corner that has been softened by a plant or screen.

You can direct the flow of traffic through a room with the placement of your furniture. Leave a minimum of two and a half feet for walkways and avoid flowing traffic through a conversational grouping if possible. Guide the traffic around the room's perimeter to create a less disruptive environment. Be aware of the usage of adjacent rooms in laying out your floor plan and flow colors from one adjacent room to the next when they are visible from one another.

Ultimately, your home is an expression of who you are. Design your rooms so that you are comfortable, with a realistic eye on your own taste and habits. After all, you're going to be living there.

Fibers are an important part of carpet construction and may be nylon, olefin, polyester, acrylic, wool, or blends of the above. Nylon is the most popular carpet fiber, while olefin provides resistance to wear and stains. Wool tends to be the most expensive fiber and generally has the most bulk.

Area rugs add a final touch of class to floor. The great thing about modern area rugs is that although many are mass produced, you can still buy great quality hand-made rugs at reasonable prices. You can pay a small fortune for a rug or you can pay next to nothing - it all comes down to the quality of rug you want and how you are going to use it. Hand made rugs are the ones that ultimately cost more, but with a little love and attention they will last you a lifetime and never lose that unique look and feel. This is another attraction of area rugs in general, and many are now considered to be works of art in their own right.

Expand your living space and create a relaxing roof-terrace oasis with lush plants, comfortable lounging areas and a barbecue.

Terraces present wonderful possibilities in the garden. They are outdoor living rooms during good weather and form a transition from the outdoors to the indoors throughout the year.

The terrace may be either at ground level, below ground level, or raised above it. The simplest type is ground level, which requires only the grading we have indicated. There is a wide choice of flooring materials to use. One may use cement, poured and levelled with a large board, but in maintaining the drainage grade or including shallow drainage paths, smooth turf may be used, in which case the preparation will be the same as for other lawn areas and various other types of bases.

The use of flagstones is made simple by applying a load of sand or gravel to the subsoil and digging the flagstones into the sand or gravel. The niches between the stones can be dug out and filled with top-soil and grass or other cover planted between them. This gives a very pleasing effect.

Hollow clay building tiles can be split and laid as units in the terrace floor, their rough edges in the soil. Another good surfacing material is "exposed aggregate," which is free from glare because of its rough finish. For this type of surface, build a form of 2 x 4's. Pour the flooring in squares, one square at a time, and level with a straight board. The material used is a mixture of cement, sharp sand and crushed rock or pebbles.

Redwood or cypress blocks may also be used for terrace floors and are very attractive, although somewhat less durable than stone or brick. You can buy the blocks cut to size and lay them directly in a bed of sand, which in turn has been laid on compacted gravel or cinder. Un-mortared brick, laid in a pattern, on 2 to 4 inches of well-tamped sand, with loose sand in the crevices for grass, makes a hardy and simple-to-construct terrace floor. The bricks may be laid flat or on end, and to keep them from spreading, drive an angle iron against the corners. Use a pattern that follows the lines of your terrace.

A sunken terrace is one which is below ground level. It can be very attractive, and it does give a feeling of coolness on a humid day or a hot night. The sunken terrace requires a retaining wall to prevent soil from continually eroding into it, and also to maintain the topsoil of the surrounding garden. The subsoil must be dug to a depth of about 5 or 6 inches below the level you wish to attain with the terrace itself. The use of sand or gravel as a base is of importance. The top treatment can follow your own dictates.

The raised terrace is generally not fully raised, but starts at the house level and is raised at its outer edge. Again, a retaining wall is called for. The principle problem with the raised terrace is levelling. Once this is accomplished, and the retaining wall built, construction follows the same procedure as in any other case. Drainage is supplied either by a central drain, going into a tile line, or by underground piping through the retaining wall.

If you are decorating a children’s room then you can afford to go a bit crazy with ideas. Children love amazing and unusual designs and are much more easily bored by drab colors and designs. It is rather intuitive, and often overlooked, but your ceiling covers as much space as your floor. Skylight inside the home / Natural Light

The physical size of the skylight greatly affects the illumination level and temperature of the space below. As a rule of thumb, the skylight size should never be more than 5% of the floor area in rooms with many windows and no more than 15% of the room's total floor area for spaces with few windows. In very cold weather, skylights are often prone to water vapor condensing on the glazing. This may cause water to drip into the room. Better skylights usually have an interior channel to collect the condensation so it can evaporate later. To eliminate this, efficient skylights are less prone to condensation problems.

The material used in skylights can impact energy savings, occupant safety, and unit reliability. Consider the choice of glazing carefully. The two types commonly used are plastic and glass. Plastic glazing are usually inexpensive and less liable to break, their surfaces scratch easily and they may become brittle and discolored over time. Glass is usually found on more expensive skylights. It is much harder and durable than plastics and do not discolor. They are often made with a tempered glass on the exterior side and a laminated pane on the interior side.

The location is important, if you want to maximize natural lighting and passive solar heating potential. Skylights on roofs that face north proved fairly constant but cool illumination. Skylights on the east provide maximum light and solar heat gain in the morning. On the west the provide afternoon sunlight and heat gain. You can prevent unwanted solar heat gain by installing the skylight in the shade of deciduous (leaf-shedding) trees, or add a movable shading device. The slope, or tilt, of the skylight also has a great effect on solar heat gain. A low-slope will admit relatively more solar heat in the summer and less in the winter, exactly what is desirable.

One of the best ways to do this is with wall niche cabinets such as a bathroom magazine rack, medicine cabinet, and recessed toilet paper holder. Wall molding is also often used to frame parts of a room such as around doorways, niches, built-in bookshelves and windows. If you have a small room, installing a window treatment can overwhelm it. A timber or concrete ledge can also be fixed for placing flowers or clocks. Glass blocks may also be fixed.Niches can be done during the wall construction or after the wall is complete. The procedure is to start by identifying the position. Mostly surfaces opposite windows or lighting give good aesthetics. This is because the recess becomes a focal point in a room. If lighting is to be done, there will be electric points done during construction or introduced after construction. The recess can also be framed with hardwood or softwood around it.Niche construction commences by marking the point and hacking to create the recess. The recess will depend on the intended finish after completion. Mostly a recess of at least fifty millimeters is good. After the surface is created , straighten and square the edges. Use plaster to mould the back and edges. The wall thickness should also be checked. A wall less than a hundred and fifty millimeters is not suitable for a recess. The niche size should be at least not less than one square meter. After formation, introduce a frame of timber round it. The overhang should be at least twenty five millimeters.
